She kept chasing it as it ran- no, flew! She hit it, again and again, hitting until her arms hurt, pausing time again and again, trying to take it down. The battle was short-lived, but the rage made it last an eternity as she hacked and slashed at the undead. She had to kill it, she had to! Her body, her mind, her soul, everything was working to kill this forsaken creature. Eventually, the creature fell into a pile of ash, and Varimor crumpled to her knees in the snow, out of breath.
Something tempted her to look through the ash pile, the clothes left behind; "Adventurers' Temptation," Allanis had called it- An incredible temptation to look through the possessions of those you had killed. Well, there was no potion Varimor could make to cure that ill, as she slowly picked up the mask from the ash. Well, now, who could answer her questions about this?
Marking down the place she had found it on her map Shearpoint, apparently. This could wait until tomorrow. My poor level 3 guy with an iron axe about to get blasted off a mountain by a flying draugr:.
As I sit here, in the Bannered Mare, my journal out in front of me, I wrack my mind for a way to address what just happened My housecarl, the woman who vowed to stand beside me through thick and thin But to tell you all, I must take you back to when I last left you, with me and Lydia on the bridge from Whiterun across the White River.
Along the way, we ran into a few bandits hiding out in a cave near the road--we were ambushed, and followed them up to their base, cutting them down as we went.
It was an easy task, honestly--though the bandit chief was difficult, a man named Hajvarr Ironhand, the two of us made quick work of him, looting the bandit base with ease and then moving back on our way to our destination. Before long, we arrived at Valtheim Keep, and Lydia and I took on the bandits hidden there.
I set the bandits on their leader with my Fury spells, and between the two of us, we were able to off the entire group and clear out Valtheim. Another job well-done by myself and my housecarl, and we supposed it was time to turn back and return to Whiterun.
As we finished the quest, though, I noticed that nearby was a site one of the Whiterun guards had suggested I drop by--Shearpoint Peak. Apparently, a Dragon was heard to be roosting in the area, and I wanted to take care of it. Lydia--having not the chance to face a dragon herself yet, and eager to assist me more--followed close behind. Before long, we arrived at Shearpoint, and found the dragon roosting there. Though it breathed ice rather than fire, it was no more a task to take down than the one I fought before, near a week ago now.
However, after slaying the dragon and making our way towards the ruin it had been roosting on He was no simple draugr, of course--he was a Dragon Priest, one of near a dozen, apparently, who once ruled over Skyrim, worshipping and serving the dragons of the ancient days.
I got a taste of just how powerful he was during the fight. In the end, Lydia and I had to resort to more sneaky tactics, ducking behind pillars and rocks and sniping at the Dragon Priest with our bows. Lydia decided to try and get closer to Krosis, to draw his attention away from me. She leaped between the both of us right as Krosis unleashed another massive Fireball Both struck true The place I was hidden allowed his Fireballs to never quite reach me, while I could easily fire upon him.
And at last, after so may arrows and shots, the Dragon Priest fell, crumbling to dust and ash. But Lydia As I stepped out, it was the first thing I saw.
It took some time, but we did return to Whiterun, where I carried her body down to be taken care of by the local temple. As for myself I find myself here, now, wearing the mask of the man who killed my housecarl. I know not which one ended her life--the explosion, or the arrow.
One thing is for certain, though--if there are figures like that Krosis rising in Skyrim as well, I need to become much stronger much faster if I have any chance of protecting those I care for. For now, though I could really use a drink. Carawen Direnni, but she prefers Cara, is the oldest daughter of high-ranking Thalmor officer. Her mother is a Direnni, but her father took the name for his own.
Which isn't uncommon in my headcanon, as the Altmer are all about family names for the nobility. Dragons provide a fiery challenge for even the most experienced Elder Scrolls veteran, but leave behind some fairly nice bonuses in the wake of their demise.
